(FR) The LIFE ELIA project or how to combine electrical safety and biodiversity

With more than 5,600 kilometers of overhead lines, the Belgian high-voltage network crisscrosses the country, providing the arteries of electrons that are essential for our daily activities. This energy flow is then distributed to homes via a local low and medium voltage network. The latter is provided by the distribution operators, while Elia is responsible for the transport and security of the high-voltage network. This implies, among other things, keeping a safe distance from tree vegetation. The corridors thus created in forest areas are often badly considered: forest managers see an economic loss, inhabitants and/or walkers see a scar in the landscape. However, what may appear to be a constraint has proved to be a springboard for the development of biodiversity.
